The gehaz (الجهاز), everything that furnishes and equips the new home, is never a fixed list. Every home has its own needs, and things come on and off the list. Start from the usual list, drop what you don't need, and add whatever suits your home.

Before you start buying

Who buys what differs from region to region and from family to family, and the prices of gold, furniture and appliances have risen by up to 30% to 40% (Al-Ahram Gate, April 2026). So agree on the list and the budget early and calmly, before the first purchase.

On Zaghrouta, the gehaz is one list for the two of you. You tick what's bought, remove what you don't need, and the total and the progress follow the list.

The list, room by room

RoomThe usualIf you like
KitchenFridge, cooker, washing machine, microwave, cookware set, kettle and blenderChest freezer, dishwasher, air fryer, coffee machine, water filter

BathroomWater heater, towels and bath setsMirror and shelves, extractor fan, laundry basket
LinenBed sheets, blankets and a duvet, curtainsTable covers, cushions, an extra bedding set

These are the same suggestions you'll find in each room of the gehaz. You can start from the usual list with one tap, then add anything else under the name you like.

What does the gehaz cost?

A Masrawy report worked out the lowest cost of setting up a home in Greater Cairo (June 2026):

ItemLowest cost, roughly
All the furnitureAbout EGP 90,000, with a bedroom from EGP 25,000 and a living room from EGP 20,000
Basic appliancesAbout EGP 60,000
FridgeFrom EGP 17,000
Five-burner cookerFrom EGP 12,000
Washing machineFrom EGP 10,000
Water heaterFrom EGP 3,000
Kitchen toolsEGP 10,000 to 20,000

These are approximate prices, and shop prices change quickly. The figures and their sources are in the wedding price guide. If you plan to pay in instalments, read the guide to buying the gehaz on instalments first.

The warranty and the invoice

  • At least two years of warranty: Egypt's consumer protection law requires sellers to guarantee durable goods against manufacturing defects for at least two years from the day you receive them.
  • If it needs installing: the warranty starts on the day it is installed or first run, but no later than two months after delivery. Ask for a receipt that shows the date it was first run.
  • Timing: buy too early and the warranty may run out while the appliance is still in its box. Ask the shop to deliver close to your move-in date.
  • Returns: you can return or exchange within 14 days without giving a reason, or within 30 days if there's a defect, and the seller must refund you within a week of your request.

Keep the invoices and warranty cards under «الفاتورة والضمان» (the invoice and warranty) in the gehaz. Zaghrouta reminds you a month and a week before a warranty ends.

The inventory list (قايمة المنقولات)

Many families write an inventory before the wedding, listing the furniture, appliances and linen with their values. Courts treat this list as a contract of trust, so if you write one, write it carefully and ask a lawyer before you sign.

After you buy

Once something is bought, tick it on the list, and book the movers a few weeks before you move in. You'll also find appliance stores on Zaghrouta.
