Bridal makeup and hair: the trial, the timing and the booking
The right makeup artist shows at the trial. When to book, what to ask before the deposit, and how to keep the wedding day on schedule without stress.
Makeup and hair show in every photo of the wedding, so the choice deserves time. What matters most is finding someone whose work is close to the bride's taste, and agreeing on every detail early.
What does makeup cost?
According to Masrawy (September 2026), makeup packages in Greater Cairo and Giza cost about EGP 5,000 to 25,000, and well-known names cost more. These are approximate prices, and the details are in the wedding price guide.
When should you book?
The wedding plan schedules booking the wedding makeup 5 months before the wedding, and the engagement makeup 40 days before the engagement. It also adds a trial task two weeks before the wedding.
A British bridal guide suggests having the trial about 3 months before the wedding, so there's time to change course if the look isn't right. Agree on a date that suits you with the artist, then move the task in the plan to match.
Questions before the deposit
- Their work with other brides: ask to see photos from real weddings, not just their social media page, and ask friends who married recently.
- What the price covers: is the trial included? Is hair priced separately? Is there an extra charge to come to your home or the venue?
- The deposit: how much, and when is it refunded?
- Timing: how long do makeup and hair take, and when should the bride arrive and when will she be done? If the mother or sisters are getting ready at the same place, book more than one artist.
- Products: which products and brands do they use? If the bride has sensitive skin, say so from the start.
- The wedding day: do they have another bride on the same day?
The trial
- Bring photos of the look you love, and notes on the makeup the bride usually wears.
- Wear a white or light top, so the colours look as they will next to the dress.
- See the makeup in more than one light before you decide.
- The trial takes longer than the wedding-day makeup, so ask how long the day itself will take and plan your timings around it.
- If there's anything you want changed, say so clearly at the trial.
What to put in the agreement
- The date of the trial.
- The arrival time and place on the wedding day.
- Overtime, in case the day runs long.
- Cancellation and the deposit.

The deposit goes straight to the artist. Record it in the money tab so you remember the rest on time.
